Easy to Make LED Pet Lead By @VogMan

Walking a dog in the dark can be risky, especially if your dog has a dark coat like mine. An LED collar/leash is a practical solution for better visibility. I decided to create one using some spare parts I had on hand. This tutorial can also be used if you want to craft an LED pet lead instead of a collar.

  • A pet lead of your choice, whether used or new
  • A roll of LED neon lights
  • A 9-volt battery (approximately 10 hours of continuous glow)
  • A battery connector cable (found in Australian retailers such as Bunnings)
  • A connector for the glowing lights
  • A few rubber bands

Update 2025:

Since many of you have reached out to me about this, I thought it would be helpful to update the post. No, I haven’t followed this tutorial—I decided to go with an LED pet collar from an Australian brand instead. I’ve been using it for over a year now without any issues, and it’s incredibly bright!
